A newly-discovered Amy Winehouse Demo has appeared online. The previously unheard demo was recorded when Amy was just 17 years old. It was reportedly made in 2001 to attract record labels.
It has been shared by London musician Gil Chang, wo co-wrote the track along with James McMilan and Maryanne Morgan. Cang says the track only took three takes.
‘Amy came in to see us, opened her mouth and just blew us all away. We were struck immediately by her talent – it was a real jaw on the floor moment. We were like wow, yes.’
Amy’s former label boss at Universal Music, David Joseph said in the past that numerous demos from the star had been destroyed, in order to stop any possibility of a release after her death.
Cang has defended his decision to share the demo, saying: ‘I’ve had it knocking about for so long. I found it again last week and thought – I’ll put it out there so people could hear it.’
