The former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan referred to the Garda Whistleblower Maurice McCabe as a ‘kiddie fiddler’, according to two witnesses to the Disclosures Tribunal.
Former Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee John McGuinness has also told the Tribunal that Martin Callinan referred to two whistle blowers as ‘headbangers’, after he told the PAC their actions were ‘disgusting.’
Martin Callinan appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on January 23rd 2104 to discuss the quashing of penalty points by gardaí.
Following his appearance, then Chairman of the Committee John McGuinness said the two whistle blowers concerned were ‘f*cking headbangers’ and that Maurice McCabe was a ‘kiddie fiddler.’
Deputy John McGuinness says Noirin O’Sullivan was there as was Superintendent Dave Taylor – who also recalls the kiddie fiddler comment from Commissioner Callinan – which he denies making.
The following day – Mr. McGuinness met Martin Callinan in a hotel car park, when he says he was told Sergeant McCabe had sexually abused his family and that he’d made a grave error in relation to the PAC.
The Tribunal has heard Mr Callinan denies this version of events – and that the Commissioner was only concerned about data protection issues around the penalty points files. Mr. McGuinness will resume giving evidence Tomorrow.
