Arcade Fire have released a new video for ‘Chemistry’ from their latest record, Everything Now. The animated video is directed by Ray Tintori, who has previously worked with the likes of MGMT and Chairlift. The excellently weird video is available to watch below…
It’s essentially a commercial love story. Boy meets girl or in this case dog waiter meets cat lady before the evil shark men get involved. Things get a bit ruff…before love reigns supreme. It’s pretty surreal!
Speaking about the video, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler said the group had wanted to collaborate with the highly acclaimed director for a long time, ‘We’ve been big fans of Ray’s work since his early videos and there was talk of collaborating during The Suburbs shoot – we were going to film it in New Orleans but then it got moved to Austin at the last minute, and Ray was caught up working on Beasts Of The Southern Wild.’
Win concluded that the timing was fitting when the band and Tintori finally got to work together, ‘So it was very full circle to finally be working with him in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. There is a playful, carnivalesque energy to the song; to capture that by filming literally during carnival felt right.’
Meanwhile, Arcade Fire played a series of shows at London’s Wembley Stadium last April. The band had been bringing out special guests every evening. On the last night Florence Welch joined Win Butler and Arcade Fire on stage to perform Florence and the Machine‘s pop anthem, ‘Dog Days Are Over’.
