Pearl Jam launched into a cover of David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” during their concert at Wrigley Field, Chicago on Saturday night. It was the band’s first-time performing Bowie’s Diamond Dogs track. Watch fan footage of the excellent cover below.
Meanwhile, Consequence of Sound reports that the unstoppable rockers were joined by a Chicago hero during their show at Wrigley Field. Former NBA superstar Dennis Rodman and America’s de facto ambassador to North Korea, gatecrashed the band’s stage show to give Eddie Vedder a ukulele prior to his encore performance of “Sleeping By Myself”.
A statement from PearlJam.com said, “Ed doesn’t think a ukulele has ever been played at center field. Can we get a ukulele? Dennis Rodman brings out a uke for Ed. He sits on Ed’s stool and thanks the Chicago audience who supported him when he was getting so much flak for traveling to North Korea. He loves the place and swears he will be buried here. Ed asks him to make sure to delay that day as long as possible.”
Pearl Jam are still enduring a backlash over their recent controversial poster depicting Donald Trump’s corpse being picked over by an American Eagle. The image for the poster was conceived and designed by bassist Jeff Ament and artist Bobby Brown.
That was in anticipation of the band’s show in Missoula, Montana on Monday night on August 13th. The controversial image of Trump’s corpse proved to be a real sore point with Republicans. That was because the show at the Washington-Grizzly Stadium was also a fundraiser for the re-election campaign of Democrat Senator Jon Tester.
