There will be major traffic restrictions in place this weekend for the Papal visit. AA Roadwatch urge all attendees heading into Dublin for the weekend events to use public transport as there will be no car park near Phoenix Park.
Anyone attending the mass in Phoenix Park will be able to use free public transport on Sunday by presenting their ticket.
The M50 and M1 will be open so once on the motorways, there will be no problem getting to the Airport.
The Port Tunnel and Tom Clarke Bridge will also be open, so anyone wishing to travel between the north and south sides can use these routes.

On Saturday, Pope Francis is set to travel through the city.
The procession is expected to begin at 4:15pm with 100,000 expected to attend.
Attendees should walk or use public transport, and leave plenty of extra time to get there.

The trip will continue to Croke Park, where Pope Francis will attend the Festival of Families, with gates opening at 4pm.
The event will begin at 6:30pm with 70,000 people set to attend. This event is sold out, and attendees will require a ticket to gain entrance.
The public are advised to walk or use public transport if possible, as parking will be limited close to the stadium.
Sunday – Phoenix Park – August 26th
The Phoenix Park mass which marks the conclusion of the World Meeting of Families 2018 in Dublin.
The mass will begin at 3pm.
Ticket-holders will be able to avail of free public transport in the Greater Dublin Area on Sunday.

A special DART timetable will be in operation on Sunday (26th) and extra services will be provided.
Present your Papal Ticket to avail of FREE travel.
The nearest DART Stations to Phoenix Park are:
- Tara St (3km from City Gate)
- Connolly (3.5km from City Gate)
Dublin Bus will have seven dedicated transport hubs to bring you as close as possible to the Phoenix Park.
Regular services will start at 8am.
Customers will be required to return to the hub they arrived by.
The Final Mass event ticket will be the only ticket accepted at the transport hubs.

- Hub 2 – Swords Business Park to Ballyboggan Road

NTA and has announced that there will be two bicycle parks available for people who want to travel to the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park by bicycle next Sunday.
The facilities are at the DIT Grangegorman, (junction of Grangegorman Rd Upper and North Circular Rd) and at Scoil Bhríde Cailíní, Blanchardstown with total capacity of over 2,000 cyclists.
The DIT site is a 3.6km walk to the Papal Cross and Scoil Bhríde Cailíní is 4.9km.
Cycle parking will be provided free of charge to the cyclists. It will operate on a ‘cloakroom’ basis.
A numbered sticker will be placed on each bicycle and a corresponding wrist band will be given to the cyclist.
The cyclist will be required to present their wristband as they remove their bicycle after the event.
The facilities will be staffed at all times by security personnel.
NTA spokesman said:
“The message for people again is to leave their cars at home. We have made substantial provision for people travelling to Phoenix Park using sustainable transport modes in partnership with Dublin Bus, Iarnród Éireann, Bus Éireann, Luas and Translink. Now with 2,000 spaces secured for bicycles, people who wish to use the most environmentally sustainable mode to get to the Phoenix Park, can do so.”

Temporary Closure of Roads in Fingal Area – World Meeting Of Families 2018 Phoenix Park Event
An Advertisement was published on 3rd August 2018 advising that an application had been received from the Office of Public Works for permission to temporarily close roads in the Fingal County Council area from 6.00am to 11.59pm on Sunday 26th August 2018.
Fingal County Council has now made an order temporarily closing the following roads in the Fingal Area from 6.00am to 11.59pm on Sunday 26th August 2018.
These will be intermittent Garda controlled road closures and restricted parking, as necessary, to facilitate safe passage of people and public transport, to and from the Phoenix Park, within the area bounded by and including:-
- Knockmaroon Hill from junction with Tower Road to Martin’s Row.
Lower Lucan Road from junction with Knockmaroon Hill to Lucan Bridge.
Somerton Lane.
Rugged Lane.
Tower Road from junction with Knockmaroon Hill to White’s Road.
White’s Road from junction with Tower Road to White’s Gate.
College Road from junction with Tower Road/White’s Road to Castleknock Road.
Luttrellstown Road from junction with White’s Road/Tower Road via Sandpits to junction with Porterstown Road/Rugged Lane.
Carpenterstown Road from junction with Luttrellstown Road to Diswellstown Road (Carpenter Pub Roundabout).
Anna Liffey Mills Road (Tinkers Hill) from junction with Lower Lucan Road (Strawberry Beds) to junction with Westmanstown Road.
