Neil Young has revealed that a new record with Crazy Horse is on the cards. The singer announced the news on his Neil Young Archives website via UCR: “Crazy Horse is about to enter the studio with 11 new ones.”

Young also stated that the songs are: “going to be recorded starting this week. … The band is excited to make this new album and continue our story. We sincerely hope [fans] enjoy our new music when it is released this year because we know we will enjoy making it.”

The new record will be the first album from Crazy Horse since 2012’s Psychedelic Pill. When Crazy Horse played a series of shows in California back in 2018, it was first time without guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro since he joined in 1975.

Although Young spoke hopefully that Sampedro would rejoin the group, the guitarist told Uncut, “I’m 70 and I’m retired now and want to stay home.” As a result, Nils Lofgren is set to be enlisted on guitar in Crazy Horse. Lofgren goes way back with Crazy Horse.

He previously recorded with the band on its 1971 eponymous debut record (sans Young), and performed with Young and Crazy Horse on After the Gold Rush and 1975’s Tonight’s the Night.
