A Sinn Féin politician was evicted from Friday night’s Cork City vs St Patrick’s Athletic League of Ireland soccer match. Gardaí were responding following a crowd protest.
It’s reported that stewards were attempting to remove a banner from supporters who were protesting over the ongoing controversy at the FAI.
A flag with the message ‘Delaney Out’ written on it, was unveiled during the game at Tuners Cross.
In a statement, Gardai said they responded following a complaint of a minor assault by management and security staff at the stadium last evening.
No arrests were made and the situation was resolved. No injuries were reported.
The Irish Examiner reports that Sinn Féin TD for Cork North Central Jonathan O’Brien was removed during the match after attempting to calm the incident.
Mr O’Brien is a former chair of the supporters’ group which helped save the club from extinction.
