Foo’s frontman Dave Grohl took to the drum kit at the fifth annual ‘Ride For Ronnie. The special charity tribute to the legendary Ronnie James Dio took place over the weekend.

Grohl was playing with a live band that lashed through covers of Motörhead and Thin Lizzy at the Dio remembrance event. Fan footage of the gig is streaming below.

Grohl was the special guest at the fifth annual ‘Ride For Ronnie’ charity rock and biker show in Encino, California.

Grohl said to the crowd via Rolling Stone:

“I am here on this beautiful day in Encino everybody loves Ronnie James Dio. He was my neighbour actually; we lived down the street from each other.”

The charity raises awareness and funds for cancer prevention in memory of late great Dio, who died in May 2010 at the age of 67.

Grohl’s band featured Black Star Riders’ Robbie Crane and Ricky Warwick and the former Buckcherry axeman Keith Nelson. The rockers rocked covers of Motörhead’s ‘Bomber’ and Thin Lizzy’s ‘Jailbreak’.
