Metallica were originally planning to unleash their 3D film, “Through the Never,” in August, but the band has now dropped the news that the flick’s debut has been pushed back to late-September. Moreover, fans will need to head to an IMAX theater to catch it as the movie is set to play exclusively at every IMAX cinema across North American for one week beginning on Sept. 27. Metallica will premiere their 3D film, ‘Through the Never,’ in IMAX theatres later this year.

“For four guys in a rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their 3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a mind-blowing thought,” drummer Lars Ulrich said in an official statement. “There is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and truly next level experience.”

Fans who don’t live near an IMAX will have a chance to see “Through the Never” when the movie is expanded into general theaters starting Oct. 4.

The band also announced they will be teaming up with independent film marketing and distribution company Picturehouse to distribute the film to theaters. “Founder Bob Berney has overseen the releases of two of the most successful independent films ever, ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ and ‘The Passion of the Christ,’ [and] while under his leadership, Picturehouse acquired and released such acclaimed features as ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ (winner of three Academy Awards and ‘La Vie en Rose’ (winner of two Academy Awards, including best actress for Marion Cotillard) as well as many other cutting edge, critically acclaimed and award winning films,” the band states on the website.

Latest we’ve heard is that we’ll get to see the movie in Ireland around October.
