Met Éireann has stated that it is monitoring the progress of Hurricane Lorenzo. The storm is making its way across the Atlantic.

Officials say that Thursday could be a danger period for the country as the storm makes its way across the North Atlantic.

However, forecasters say they will have a better idea of the hurricane’s trajectory in the next day or so.

The weather system which is headed for Portugal as a category storm 3 is moving across the ocean, with maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h.

According to the US National Hurricane Centre, large wells across most of the North Atlantic basin can be expected over the next few days.

By the time it reaches Ireland Lorenzo is anticipated to be downgraded to a tropical storm.
A spokesperson for Met Éireann’s says Lorenzo could bring stormy conditions across the country even if it doesn’t make landfall.

The UK Met Office and the US National Hurricane Centre (NOAA) Met Éireann, are in daily contact to monitor the progress of the storm.
