Tragic Dad Didn't Know His Family Had Died While He Slept
Tragedy As Young Mother And Baby Die

The father at the centre of the Lucan tragedy was asleep and unaware that his baby boy lay dead and that his partner had also tragically died, having left their home.

The man, who works in education, was awoken by the Gardai when they attended the Lucan home. Shortly before, his partner, young mum Nicola Keane, had been seen behaving erratically on the M50 flyover. Gardaí were called to the scene. Ms Keane’s body was found on the road beneath the bridge, in the Strawberry Beds.

Nicola Keane, believed to have been in her 30s, worked as a nurse. Her partner was unaware that Ms. Keane had left the house until Gardaí called to the house to deliver the news. When they arrived, the 7-month old child was found to be unresponsive and was declared dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examinaton determined that the likely cause of death was asphyxiation. This may have been an accident and the Garda investigation continues. A Garda spokesperson said that even if the death is found to have been caused deliberately, they will not be seeking anyone else in connection with the death.

The baby boy has been named as Henry.
