The Rolling Stones have been about the place for a fair few years now. Forming in 1962, the band will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2022. The rock stars were still working and turning as always until the pandemic called things to a halt.
Guitarist Keith Richards told GQ that they had an album on the way before the pandemic took over the world. It was, according to Richards “halfway in the works before the shit hit the fan”.
“Apart from that, at our age, I don’t know. I haven’t heard of any plans, but I’m sure there are things being made,”
“First off, I’m going to get through this year and see how we handle next year. Because I think at the moment, there are more problems than a Rolling Stones celebration.”
Richards has been written off many times. His drink and drug issues are widely known but the rocker just keeps on rocking. Jo Wood, ex-wife of Ronnie Wood even put Richards on a healthy diet a number of years ago. It seems to have preserved him for a little longer. His energy, at 76, is quite something and he has continued to defy expectations.
“I mean, I don’t wish to defy anybody’s predictions and I’m really not interested in them, but I’ll croak when I croak and everybody will know,” the musical legend said.
Richards may not know about any plans for the 60th-anniversary celebrations but lead singer and Richards’ writing partner Mick Jagger is very hopeful and is planning his. He told Rolling Stone back in September, “You might call it a habit. I mean, that’s what we do. And also there’s that thing between us, like, ‘Whos going to be first to get off the bus?’ You have to be kicked off or drop off, right? So it’s like that. I really can’t imagine doing anything else.”
About the anniversary, the frontman said, “I hope we’re all there, man. It’s something to look forward to.”
