Street traders have been given the go-ahead to set up their stalls for Christmas shopping in Dublin.

A compromise has been was struck between traders, members of the City Council and Lord Mayor Hazel Chu following three weeks of talks.

The deal will allow limited numbers to work after the local authority banned them in a letter on November 11 citing Covid-19 concerns and rolling restrictions.

Plans are in place for 25 stalls, with 15 planned for Henry Street and 10 to be located on O’Connell Street. There is usually 40 stalls located on Henry Street.

Traders were told by Dublin City Council last month that the traditional market could not go ahead due to Covid-19 guidelines.

Traders say they expect to be in operation by the end of the week.
