Regarding public transport, Irish Rail have confirmed, that passengers must book their tickets in advance, before they use any of the inner city services, over the Christmas period.
This comes into effect from the 18 December, to 6 January, when inter- county travel will be permitted, under Level 2 of the Covid-19 Restrictions. Until then, public transport, should only be used for work, medical, or educational purposes.
The trains on Irish Rail will only be half full, to ensure social distancing can be maintained. Passengers using season tickets, and free passes, also must book in advance.
Barry Kenny, an Irish Rail spokesperson, urged the public to, “only travel if your journey is neccessary” over the Festive period.
He added that, “Holders of existing tickets, such as open returns, season tickets, and Department of Social Protection free travel can also pre-book their Intercity reservations during these dates, at no charge via irishrail.ie or at 1850366222”.
“Seating will be unassigned, and customers are asked not to sit in seating designated as restricted, to ensure appropriate distancing”.
Catering services on these trains, will remain suspended, while alcohol is prohibited on all trains.
Kenny also said, that passengers must wear facecoverings, while they are on the train, and at the station. Revised schedules are also in place from Christmas Eve, to New year’s Day, and passengers must check the times. There are no rail services on Christmas Day, and St Stephen’s Day.
