“Queen Of The Olympia Theatre” Tributes To Late Maureen Grant

Tributes have been paid to the Olympia Theatre’s longest standing staff member, Maureen Grant. She passed away on Wednesday, aged 95.

Maureen Grant had worked in the Dublin theatre since 1949.

Grant was loved by so many well known faces in the entertainment industry. Irish celebrities paid tributes to the much loved theatre employee which included kind words from Brendan O’Carroll and magician Kevin Barry among others.

“My Olympia mammy” Tributes to Maureen Grant

The cast of Mrs Brown’s Boys led the tributes to Maureen Grant.

They said, “So saddened to hear the queen of the Olympia Theatre Dublin Maureen Grant has passed away. Maureen was an amazing friend treated us like her own and always kept us in check, you will be sadly missed by many many people My Olympia Mammy.

Keith Barry wrote, “So sad to hear of the passing of Maureen Grant of Maureen’s bar in the @olympiatheatre . I have many fond memories of laughs and stories with the lady of the Olympia herself. RIP. You’ll be sorely missed by all.”

Love Island presenter, Laura Whitmore hailed Maureen Grant as a “legend”, saying, “So sad to hear of the passing of Maureen from @olympiatheatre, what a legend, condolences to her family and friends at this time x”.

Dustin The Turkey said he was “little broken hearted” to hear about Maureen’s passing, hailing her as “The First Lady of the Olympia”.

Rock Band, Aslan also paid tribute to Maureen,“So saddened to hear of the passing of the Queen of the Olympia Theatre, Maureen Grant. We have no doubt we will all continue to feel your presence in the Olympia”.

They added, “Our thoughts are with your many friends and family. Christy, Billy, Joe, Alan, Rod & all in Aslan past & present”.

Other figures that paid tribute included, actor Rory Cowan and Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald.

Cowan described her as “fabulous”, “well thought of and very well liked”.

Mary Lou McDonald hailed Maureen as an “incredible woman and incredible friend”.

The Olympia Theatre’s bar is named Maureen’s Bar. Maureen Grant will be fondly remembered by staff, guests, artists and crew.
