It follows a bad harvest in Britain -- and the imposition of trade tariffs on Canadian wheat for British mills.
Spokesman Gerald Cunningham says the flour available from the Continent just doesn't work for making a sliced pan.
''The protein levels of the wheat is lower and is not suitable for making the type of bread that we're used to eating in this country. You know in the EU, alot of the breads are more open textured, you know like baguettes, focaccias and different types of open textures like ciabattas, that kind of products.''
