Deliveroo riders in Dublin have had eggs, rocks and glass amongst many other items thrown at them all in the line of duty, as a recent spate of attacks on Deliveroo riders in the capital has thrown a sharp focus on the continuing mistreatment and harassment of their staff, particulary from Brazil.

Gardaí in the north inner-city have increased patrols in response to a number of recent threats and attacks on the delivery riders. Deliveroo has already made contact with gardaí to establish a meeting after several of its delivery cyclists were threatened, intimidated and assaulted last weekend according to a report in thje Irish Times.

Many riders believe they are being targeted due to their nationalities, which has seen a bad situation worsen since the death of teenager Josh Dunne in East Wall last week, described as “a tragedy” by many since then.

The food delivery service has also urged their riders not to accept an order if they have concerns about a location in recent days. They add that they have stressed that the safety of its riders is its priority.

A spokesperson told Radio Nova: “We strongly condemn all forms of attacks or violence on riders. There is no place for this, especially when riders are carrying out a vital role in their communities, helping the public to receive the food they need and want.

The security and safety of riders is our absolute priority and we take every step to ensure they feel safe when on the road.”
