Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Donegal, Mayo and Galway, effective from 9pm tonight.
The national forecaster has warned that there is a risk of thunderstorms with today’s weather said to be misty, cloudy and full of scattered showers.
The warning is also said to last until 9am tomorrow.
There is also a risk of isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. When the isolated showers clear, drier conditions are to follow.
There will just be a few isolated rainy spells, with this afternoon expected to see bright, hazy spells for the most part.
Winds are also to gradually get stronger throughout the day with temperatures to remain between 10 and 13 degrees. Rain will also extend from the southwest as the evening progresses.
Showers:
Tonight, rain in the west and southwest will cross the country quickly overnight. This will also be followed by thundery or blustery showers mainly over the western half of Ireland.
Gale force winds are expected to hit Atlantic coasts. Temperatures are expected to stay between 5 and 8 degrees.
Met Éireann forecast for week ahead:
Tomorrow: Widespread blustery showers will also develop tomorrow with bright and sunny spells with moderate winds. Rain will be heavy at times during the day, with the risk of isolated thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures are to stay between 8 and 11 degrees.
Tuesday night will be blustery with rain in the southwest. It will move north-eastwards throughout the country.
Temperatures can drop as low as 3 degrees.
Wednesday: Regarding Wednesday, Met Éireann said this,
“Holding mainly dry in the east with isolated showers”. Becoming cloudier later in the afternoon, as more persistent rain arrives in southern counties”.
They added, “Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderating southerly winds”.
“Some uncertainty for Wednesday night as a low pressure system is indicated to move up from the south bringing widespread rain with a risk of flooding in places along with some strong winds.
They also said “some sleet and snow falls” were possible too. “Lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees” they added.
Thursday: Thursday will be wet and windy to begin with. Rain is expected to hit most of the country and may be heavy in places.
The showers are expected to clear in the northeast. Scattered showers will follow for a time. The afternoon will be mostly dry with higest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.
It is expected to become wet overnight with rain extending to all areas. Met Éireann also warned that rain will also push up from the south and extending northwards through the night with strong winds, especially on southern and east coasts.
The weekend: Current indications show that it will be very mild with temperatures to hit the mid teens.
There will be widespread rain on Saturday, but that is to make way for drier weather on Sunday, away from Atlantic coasts.
