Fears of potential reprisals have been expressed following an unseemly brawl between rival gangs from either side of the River Liffey last night on the Samuel Beckett Bridge.

Gardaí are investigating a large brawl that has left one boy hospitalised. He suffered non-life threatening stab wounds.

Shortly after 7:30pm yesterday evening a number of garda units responded to a public order incident on the Samuel Beckett Bridge.

Dozens of teenagers gathered on the bridge for what is believed to be local rivalry clashes.

One boy in his mid-teens suffered flesh wounds and was taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Local councillor Nial Ring says there is a worry in the community that there will be now a retaliation attack:

The problem now is that it is gone from rivalry, you know parish rivalry, local parish rivalries being played out on football pitches up to now, that now they’re clashing with each other and unfortunately as we’ve seen recently, knives are becoming a feature of any of these sort of attacks.”

Videos of the brawl are circulating on social media and gardaí say no arrests have yet been made but enquires are ongoing.
