CCTV cameras are being installed in parts of Howth and Malahide following several recent incidents of anti-social behaviour.
Yesterday, gardai were called to Howth where they dispersed a group of young people following an alleged assault on a teenage boy.
Gardai and ambulance staff were attacked and the injured teenager was rushed to hospital following the violent incident.
Gardai also had to scramble to Kilbarrack where at least 20 teenagers engaged in scraps around the Dart station.
Groups of teenagers clashed as paramedics and officers were assaulted, attempting to tend to an injured boy.
Mayor of Fingal County Council, David Healy, says the issue of anti social behaviour crops up regularly:
”This is something which isn’t new and its been a particular type of phenomenon of the beginning of the summer and I would say particularly maybe in the last five or six years, but even then its not entirely new. This year was a couple of weeks earlier and that’s probably an impact of lockdown.
It’s worrying. Its particularly worrying for young people because when violence does happen the main victims over the years have always been young people.”
