The Cure's Robert Smith feels that the band's next material could be their last.
Last week, Smith had confirmed that the Cure had two albums ready to be released.
“I’ll be able to say when everything’s coming out and what we’re doing next year and everything", he said. “So, we were doing two albums and one of them’s very, very doom and gloom and the other one isn’t. And they’re both very close to being done. I just have to decide who’s going to mix them. That’s really all I’ve got left to do".

Recently, Smith shared details with Chvrches' lead singer Lauren Mayberry about the long awaited album from the Cure. Earlier this month, Chvrches collaborated with Smith on a new track called "How Not To Drown".
However, speaking to the Sunday Times, Smith has now hinted that this upcoming new material could be the Cure's last.
“The new Cure stuff is very emotional", he said. “It’s 10 years of life distilled into a couple of hours of intense stuff".
“And I can’t think we’ll ever do anything else. I definitely can’t do this again", he added.
Smith's admission is similar to the one that he made in 2019 about the Cure.
"I think that every album we do is the last Cure album. It may well be, but if there’s another bunch of good songs then there’s no reason not to follow it up", Smith said in 2019.
"What do we do if we’ve got seven good songs leftover? Wherever it ends up, it will be an honest decision. There’s no record company involvement. It’s just us doing it. No one is pulling the strings".
Towards the end of 2020, Smith revealed that he had been working on two projects. They were a new album from The Cure and his own solo record.
“Probably in about six weeks’ time I’ll be able to say when everything’s coming out and what we’re doing next year and everything", Smith told Zane Lowe. "We were doing two albums and one of them’s very, very doom and gloom and the other one isn’t”.
“And they’re both very close to being done", he added. "I just have to decide who’s going to mix them. That’s really all I’ve got left to do".
