A woman who was found to be suffering from a mental illness when she murdered a 27-year-old man has been committed to the Central Mental Hospital.
Last month, a jury found Grace Miano NOT guilty of murdering the man in her home at Tudor Lawns, Foxrock, Dublin, by reason of insanity.
On November 1st 2018, Kenyan woman Grace Miano used a knife and fire poker to attack Limbani Mzoma, a 27yo man from Malawi.
At her murder trial, the jurors heard distressing evidence about how she mutilated him after death. She said she did so to “protect women.”
Both the prosecution and defence accepted the psychiatric evidence that she was suffering from a mental disorder at the time.
The court heard she believed she was possessed by the spirit of Princess Diana and she also told gardaí that she spoke to God on the night of the murder.
Today, the court heard the report of another psychiatrist who recommended that she continue to receive treatment for her condition in the Central Mental Hospital.
Mr Justice Paul McDermott said he was satisfied that was the best course of action.
