Metallica have expressed their total delight at the use of their worldwide smash from 1986 “Master of Puppets” being used in the season four finale of Netflix streaming behemoth Stranger Things.

In the Season 4 finale “The Piggyback,” Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) plays “Master of Puppets” — released in 1986, the year in which the season is set — to distract the demonic bats protecting the lair of main villain Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

The band issued a statement via Instagram accompanied by video of Eddie Munson performing the iconic metal song saying,

The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it. We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away… it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?

The statement continued, “It’s an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show.”

“Master of Puppets” is the title track of Metallica’s 1986 album and is featured on the official soundtrack for “Stranger Things” season 4 alongside Kate Bush‘s “Running Up That Hill,” off of her 1985 album, Hounds of Love. Reaching a whole new level of popularity after being featured in part one of “Stranger Things” season 4, “Running Up That Hill” broke three world records, landing at the top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart for the first time in over thirty-six years.
