Rumors have been making their way around the Web that British group Oasis will reunite in 2014 for a series of shows to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of their debut album, Definitely Maybe.
According toGigwise, tabloid sources in the U.K. claim that the band has been offered an enormous sum of money to regroup for the shows next year, at which they would perform the album in full.
A spokesperson for ex-singer Liam Gallagher, whose current band Beady Eyefeatures several other former Oasis members, had no comment.
However, a representative for his brother, former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher, said that the rumors were “not true.”
Noel himself dismissed suggestions of an Oasis reunion last year, saying, “I wish people would give it up – it’s not going to happen, for no other reason than we’ve moved on,” although he did leave the door open a little, adding, “That’s not to say it won’t happen in 25 years time, or 20 years.”
His brother Liam, on the other hand, told NME in June that the group had “unfinished business” and suggested that he and Noel could “bury the hatchet for a quick lap of honor” to mark the 20th anniversary.
Oasis, one of the biggest bands to ever emerge from the U.K., broke up in September 2009 after the long-feuding Liam and Noel reportedly exchanged blows backstage at a concert in France.
