A judge has been told a man charged with inciting hatred allegedly posted a video to social media saying refugees “were here to rape women and children“.

39-year-old Graham Carey of Dunsink Drive, Finglas, Dublin interjected to deny the allegation in court and claim it was about “undocumented migrants” only.

The accused faced his fourth hearing at Blanchardstown District Court today after he was charged in February.

It’s alleged on January 30th he distributed, showed, or played a recording to stir up hatred – he was granted bail at a previous hearing, with a number of conditions including a social media ban and to stay away from refugee centres.

Court heard DPP directions were still unavailable and the case has been adjourned for six weeks.

Graham Carey’s defence counsel requested an amendment to his bail conditions to allow him to use WhatsApp only for work purposes.

He asked to join a family group on the app because he is missing out on important family occasions – but the judge refused.

He’s to appear on September 29th again. Graham Carey has not indicated a plea and was granted legal aid.
