An 18-year-old man has appeared in court charged with an alleged assault and robbery in Dublin’s Temple Bar last month.
Scott Cahill, of St. James’ Road, Greenhills in Crumlin, appeared before Dublin District Court today with the teen accused of two counts of assault causing harm and one count of robbery.
It relates to an incident in which four English tourists were allegedly attacked on Fownes Street on Friday, August 11th.
Giving evidence, Garda Derek Brereton described the alleged incident as “extremely violent” and a “vicious, unprovoked attack“.
He accused Mr. Cahill of punching one of the injured parties to the ground, and stamping on his head.
Judge John King heard they were knocked or dragged onto the ground and repeatedly punched, and “stamped” on.
They had received medical attention and were taken to St. James’s Hospital after the two-minute long ordeal.
Garda Brereton told defense barrister Karla Ray that there is “excellent quality” CCTV footage of the night and alleged that Mr. Cahill can be clearly identified in his distinctive Armani runners and Canada Goose branded jacket.
He was refused bail by Judge King, who cited the seriousness of the charges. He was granted legal aid, and remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next week.
