Staff at RTÉ who received a car allowance weren’t required to have a driver’s licence. Its one of many revelations emerging today ahead of their latest Oireachtas appearance.

It’s contained in one of over 170 documents released to the Oireachtas Media Committee, ahead of its meeting with the broadcaster tomorrow.

RTÉ said in response to previous requests from the committee that sixty-one people were receiving a car allowance as of the end of 2022.

They range on a number of scales, with ten people receiving between €1,000 and €1,500 each year, while on the higher end of the scale, six people get an allowance up to €25,000.

The correspondence says it’s a non-pensionable allowance which is unvouched, and those receiving weren’t required to have a driver’s licence.

Other documents show minutes of a meeting whereby details of Ryan Tubridy’s draft contract to return to his radio show were discussed.

He had been asked to return the 150 thousand euro so-called ‘Renault money‘, which his lawyer said was agreeable.

He would have been paid €170,000 over a two year contract, which would have included more slots and an agreement to host a podcast for the broadcaster.
