Eric Cantona has said that his newly found music career is the “closest thing” that comes to his time as a footballer.
The charismatic Frenchman, who won four Premier League titles with football giants Manchester United in the 1990s, has discovered a new career in the music business, with his debut EP, ‘I’ll Make My Own Heaven’, arriving next Friday (October 20).
Cantona has previously hinted about this EP, after sharing preview of the music video for new single, ‘The Friends We Lost’, which saw him in a Shakespeare pose, holding a model of his own head.
He can be heard singing, “Watch yourself in the mirror – someone you hate, someone you love”.
Cantona had previously said that these tracks were inspired by artists like Leonard Cohen, Daniel Johnston, and Nick Cave.
He has also enjoyed a career as an actor, starring in several movies, and television films since 1995.
“should be a big dream”
Speaking recently, the ex footballer turned actor, has claimed that his latest venture is the next best thing to gracing pitches like Old Trafford.
“If you have a dream it should be a big dream. I’ve done sport, cinema, but I think after sport the closest thing is singing live on stage”, Cantona said.
“I did the live shows first. After people came they were like, ‘You should release one or two pieces”.
Cantona continued, “When I was young, all the albums I bought were live albums. There is an energy and imperfection, there are accidents that can be beautiful – hopefully not too many accidents”.
Later this month, Eric Cantona will also embark on a number of live shows.
This will see him Manchester’s Stoller Hall for back to back shows on October 26 and 27, as well back to shows at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre on October 28 and 29.
Irish fans can see Eric hit the stage at Dublin’s Liberty Hall on October 31. Tickets are on sale here.
