Two brothers have been jailed for a violent attack on a 55-year-old man, who died from his injuries at his home in Dublin almost two weeks later.
Ian and Daniel Connaghan, both of Ashinghton Rise, Navan Road in Cabra, Dublin 7, were acquitted of the murder of Michael Mulvey, but convicted on other charges.
On 27th November 2019, Michael Mulvey’s partner awoke to find the 55-year-old dead in their bed.
It was the prosecution’s case that he died from injuries sustained during an assault almost two weeks beforehand.
On that date, Ian Connaghan threatened to kill Mr. Mulvey after an incident at some traffic lights.
He and his older brother, Daniel, caught up with him a short time later, at the roundabout outside the Halfway House pub in Ashtown, where they gave him a “severe beating” as it was described in court.
The defence claimed an underlying heart condition could have led to his death and in the end, the jury acquitted the brothers of murder.
However, they found 34-year-old Ian Connaghan guilty of manslaughter, and he was jailed today for eight years.
43-year-old Daniel Connaghan was convicted of assault causing serious harm, and he was jailed for four years.
