As the dust settles on the incredible public funeral of beloved musician and writer Shane MacGowan, his wife Victoria wants to clear up a rumour.

Last week, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary was the site of the remarkable celebration and send-off for the Pogues icon, as some of Ireland’s finest musicians gathered to pay tribute.

The funeral heard stirring performances from Mundy, Nick Cave, Declan O’Rourke, Cait O’Riordan and Dubliner John Sheahan, among many others.

‘Fairytale of New York,’ sang by Glen Hansard and Lisa O’Neill was noted for the impromptu dancing in the aisles that it inspired.

MacGowan’s wife, Victoria Mary Clarke took to Twitter/X this morning to address one particular rumour that had done the rounds in the days since the funeral.

It had apparently circulated that the “Rainy Night in Soho” genius’ last wish was for a tab to be run behind the bar, on his behalf.

"I just want to say that Shane MacGowan did NOT make a last request to leave 10k behind the bar."

“His last request was for peace and love in the world.

“Although we are certain that he would have approved of the beautiful funeral!"

Meanwhile, in celebration of their late band mate, The Pogues will release a special vinyl edition of ‘Fairytale of New York’ to raise money for Dublin Simon Community.

The 7inch re-release single will be available from 19th December and can be pre-ordered HERE.
