Staff at Element Pictures in Dublin are celebrating after Poor Things received eleven Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, Best Hair and Make Up, and Best Supporting Actor, and Best Costume Design.
Its a record haul of Oscar nominations for an Irish produced film. Poor Things, both produced and developed by Irish film pioneers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe has already won a pair of Golden Globes and another eleven nominations at the BAFTAs.
Today’s announcement brings to 26 the number of Academy Award nominations, as well as two Academy Awards received by Element Pictures productions since it was established in 2001..

Starring the Hollywood star Emma Stone, Poor Things builds on the successful working relationship that Element Pictures has developed with Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos.
They’ve produced his English language films, including The Lobster, Killing Of A Sacred Deer, and The Favourite featuring Stone also– and Kinds Of Kindness, which is in production.
Ongoing successful partnerships with creative talent is a hallmark of the Element Pictures story with other successful collaborations including projects with Irish director Lenny Abrahamson, and with writer Sally Rooney, for example.
