In a sweet tribute to her late husband ahead of Valentine’s Day, Victoria Mary Clarke shared a moving video of Shane MacGowan.
Pogues lead singer Shane MacGowan died last November, having been receiving hospital treatment for viral ecephalitis.
The funeral of the musician took place in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, following a procession in Dublin, which saw a horse-drawn carriage from South Lotts, through Pearse Street, to Westland Row.
MacGowan’s ashes were later scattered along the River Shannon, which was chosen in order to reflect one of the late singer’s most famous tunes, ‘The Broad Majestic Shannon’.
The song includes the following lyrics “Take my hand and dry your tears, babe Take my hand, forget your fears, babe There’s no pain, there’s no more sorrow They’re all gone, gone in the years, babe”.
“will always be the light”
Confirming her husband’s death, Victoria Mary Clarke paid tribute to her husband back in November.
“I don’t know how to say this so I am just going to say it. Shane who will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life and the most beautiful soul and beautiful angel and the sun and the moon and the start and end of everything that I hold dear has gone to be with Jesus and Mary and his beautiful mother Therese”, she wrote.
“There’s no way to describe the loss that I am feeling and the longing for just one more of his smiles that lit up my world”.
Clarke also added, “Thank you thank you thank you thank you for your presence in this world you made it so very bright and you gave so much joy to so many people with your heart and soul and your music”.
“You will live in my heart forever. Rave on in the garden all wet with rain that you loved so much”.
“blubbering wreck”
Ahead of Valentine’s Day, Victoria Mary Clarke paid this sweet tribute to beloved husband Shane MacGowan.
Alongside a nine minute video of Shane singing, Clarke wrote the following caption.
“I feel like an absolute blubbering wreck today and it’s not even Valentine’s yet!”, she said.
Concluding the video which also shows MacGowan singing “Victoria is the best”, and “The streets were ringing with that in 1969”, Clarke added, “Aw, that’s nice I like that”.

Next month, a tribute concert honouring music icons Shane MacGowan and Sinéad O’Connor will be held at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
