Joni Mitchell’s music has returned to Spotify for the first time in two years.

In 2022, the music legend had confirmed that she would removing her back catalogue from the streaming service.

Mitchell made this decision in solidarity with Neil Young, who had previously removed his material from the site, in a stand against Joe Rogan’s controversial podcast regarding misinformation about the Covid-19 vaccine.

“I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify,” Mitchell said at the time. “Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue”.

However, Joni Mitchell’s music has been reinstated on the streaming site, which comes less than a fortnight after Neil Young had confirmed that his music would be returning to Spotify.

“Spotify, the #1 streaming of low res music in the world – Spotify where you get less quality than we made, will now be home of my music again”, Young wrote.

He added, “My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I opposed at Spotify. I cannot just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did with Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all”.

Young also wrote, “So I have returned to Spotify, in sincere hopes that Spotify sound quality will improve and people will be able to hear and feel all the music as we made it. Qobuz and Tidal, where my music is presented, are all High res as well”.

“Hopefully Spotify will turn to Hi Res as the answer and sever all the music to everyone. Spotify, you can do it! Really be #1 in all ways. You have the music and the listeners! Start with a limited Hi res tier and build from there!”.

Joni Mitchell has yet to officially comment on the matter.

Back in January, Joni Micthell performed at the Grammy Awards for the first time in 20 years.
