Paul McCartney has praised Beyoncé’s cover of 1968 hit ‘Blackbird’.

Beyoncé covered McCartney’s song, which featured on her recently released album, Cowboy Carter.

This reimagined version also includes fresh bass and orchestration and harmonies from four female singers, Reyna Roberts, Tanner Adell, Tiera Kennedy, and Brittney Spencer.

“so happy”

Praising Beyoncé’s cover of the track via Instagram, Paul McCartney called it a “magnificent version”.

“I am so happy with @beyonce’s version of my song Blackbird,” McCartney said, alongside a a black-and-white photo of him and Beyoncé.

“I think she does a magnificent version of it and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place”.

He added, “I think Beyoncé has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it!”.

McCartney went on to reveal that he had also spoken to Beyoncé, who “thanked” him for writing the song.

“I spoke to her on FaceTime and she thanked me for writing it and letting her do it. I told her the pleasure was all mine and I thought she had done a killer version of the song”, he wrote.

“When I saw the footage on the television in the early 60s of the black girls being turned away from school, I found it shocking and I can’t believe that still in these days there are places where this kind of thing is happening right now”.

Last week, Paul McCartney also spoke about how he came up with the title for the Beatles album, ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.

The singer spoke about this on a recent episode of his podcast: Paul McCartney: A Life In Lyrics. More on this here.
