Joni Mitchell delivered a live cover of Elton John’s hit I’m Still Standing at the Gershwin Prize Tribute concert.
Mitchell performed the track during the ceremony, which awarded Elton John and songwriting partner Bernie Taupin with the Library of Congress 2024 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
The ceremony took place at the DAR Revolution Hall in Washington D.C, which aired last night (8 April).
Joni Mitchell’s performance of the track which you can check out below, also included a backing band comprising of Annie Lennox, Brandi Carlile, Davey Johnstone, and Blake Mills.
Joni Mitchell – ‘I’m Still Standing’
Brandi Carlile introduced Joni Mitchell to the stage ahead of her performance, telling the crowd that I’m Still Standing, which was significant to the singer, who had survived a brain aneurysm a decade earlier.
The singer also received a blessing from Sir Elton and Taupin to alter some of the lyrics for the track, with Mitchell’s cover taking a slower, bluesy tone as opposed to the original track.

This live performance comes just weeks after Joni Mitchell also announced her return to Spotify for the first time in 2 years.
The singer had removed her music from the streaming platform back in 2022, in solidarity with Neil Young who had removed his content from the site in a stand against Joe Rogan’s controversial podcast.
