The entertainment world has reacted to the historic news regarding Donald Trump’s guilty verdict in his hush money case in New York.
Former US President Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying records, to cover up hush money payments made to adult film actress Storm Daniels in the lead up to the 2016 presidential elections.
These payments were allegedly made to Daniels to stop her from telling people about an alleged sexual encounter which took place between her and Mr Trump. Donald Trump had always denied having sexual relations with Ms Daniels.
Being convicted of this crime, Mr Trump has made history by becoming the first former US President to be convicted of a crime. He is due to return on July 11 for sentencing.
“a disgrace”
Despite the guilty verdict, Donal Trump continues to plead his innocence, calling the decision to convict him, “rigged” and a “disgrace”.
“We didn’t do a thing wrong. I am a very innocent man. It’s okay, I’m fighting for our country, I’m fighting for our constitution. Our whole country is being rigged right now. This was done by this Biden administration in order to wound, to hurt a political opponent”, the former President stated.
Trump also insisted that he will still run for the White House at the next election.
“The real verdict is gonna be November 5th by the people. They know what happened here, everybody knows what happened here”, he said.
“will never accept responsibility”
Following this, key figures from the world of entertainment have been reacting to this news.
Singer Barbara Streisland took to X to write: “Convicted felon Donald Trump is blaming the judge, the jury and New York for being found guilty on 34 counts. He will never accept accountability for his crimes. Americans must not allow this felon anywhere near the White House again”.
Elsewhere, Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter also added this message.
“34 is now my favourite number”, she wrote, in reference to the 34 counts that Trump was convicted of. While Stephen King added: “The Republican candidate for President is a convicted felon”.
Journalist and presenter Piers Morgan did call the verdict a “massive overreach”, and “obviously politically partisan action” for “something so trivial”.
Following the ruling, Donald Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr, also wrote this on social media.
“The Democrats have succeeded in their years long attempt to turn America into a third-world shithole. November 5 is our last chance to save it”, he said.
During the court case itself, actor and political activist Robert De Niro who has also been a long term protestor against Trump, called him a “clown” during an impassioned speech outside the New York court.
De Niro also warned that if re-elected, Donald Trump will turn it into a dictatorship. More on this from Nova here.
