Going back a bit here but if you remember a world-class ’80s Dublin blues band called The Business (I always associate them with Slattery’s of Capel Street) then you might also know the name Pat Farrell.
A phenomenal blues guitarist, pat played all around Ireland for over fifty years.
Brush Shiels got Pat Farrell to join Skid Row after Gary Moore left. Not bad CV.
Pat played with Rob Strong and The Rockets. He played lead guitar with Paul Brady’s band which gave birth to the great The Business Blues Band, also featuring the legend Don Baker.
The Business played shows in London and toured in Russia when they weren’t playing in Slattery’s of Capel Street, The Meeting Place on Dorset Street and the late lamented JJ Smyth’s on Aungier Street.
In the late 2000s Pat went up with Mik Pyro’s band Republic of Loose at the Academy in
Dublin for a few songs which led to Mik inviting him to join his new band, Mik Pyro’s Blues Cartel.
Their Whelan’s Sunday Late Night sessions became the stuff of legend.

Sadly, Pat Farrell lost out to prostate cancer at the start of last year, and tomorrow night at The Olympia the Business, Mik Pyro’s Blues Cartel, Don Baker, Rob Strong among other huge names, are putting on a Blues Extravaganza.
Remembering Pat Farrell 1951-2023. Brush Shiels has even written a song for the occasion.
