Ahead of his show at Marlay Park last night, fans flocked from around the world to see Hozier rock the stage.

Queuing from countries including Germany, New Zealand and Canada, fans waited with huge excitement since 1am Friday morning, in a bid to get as close to the singer as possible.

Hozier first announced this headline show at the Dublin venue last July, not long after he had reached number one in the UK Album Charts with Unreal Unearth. More on this from Nova here.

“It’s Hozier”

Some fans who queued with such excitement included Hannah Watson from New Zealand, who said that there was “no better reason” to travel to Ireland than to see Hozier.

“It’s Hozier!”, she said. “To see him do a show in Ireland, that opportunity doesn’t present itself very often so I think it’s worth it, absolutely”.

Another fan Petra who also travelled from Germany, was determined to get to the front row as “the energy is the best”.

Petra said: “The fans they’re super dedicated so everyone is just singing the lyrics and feeling the songs and you get to really feel the energy of the band”.

Elsewhere, Jill from Holland also added that Hozier’s music has helped her to “get through situations”, that she never thought that she would.

Adding that she has had “quite a rough life”, Jill said: “I wanted to make something to show my gratefulness for his music. I wanted to make something of art because his music is also art and to give it to him from one human to another human”.

Another fan who was keen to get to the front row, was Becky Sage from Co Tipperary.

Arriving at Marlay Park as early as 1am, Sage commented: “I arrived at 1am as I was very anxious that there were people travelling internationally to come here so we wanted to be here early to get barricade and hopefully see Hozier up close”.

This marks Hozier’s first Irish show since reaching No 1 in the Irish Singles Charts with ‘Too Sweet’.

Back in April, Hozier also became the fourth Irish artist to reach top spot in the US Billboard Chart. More on this here.
