Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has failed in his bid to become an MP for Labour, despite the party’s historic victory at the UK general election this week.
Labour’s landslide victory at the election saw Sir Keir Starmer elected as British Prime Minister, as Labour swept hundreds of seats across the country, bringing an end to 14 years of Conservative rule.
Despite this, Dave Rowntree missed out on a seat, losing out to Alison Bennett from the Liberal Democrats.
Rowntree: “delighted to have the opportunity”
Back in March, Rowntree announced his intention to run as a Labour candidate at the upcoming election.
At the time, Rowntree said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to become Labour’s first Mid Sussex MP. Residents have their best chance in a generation to make their vote count and return a Labour MP to parliament”.

“The Tories have run out of ideas, and the Lib Dems have run out of steam”, he stated. “I’m running for parliament to provide the energy and vision the area so desperately needs”.
Last month, Blur announced plans to release a live album and feature length film from their two sell out shows from Wembley last year. They will arrive on July 26.
