Gardaí have arrested a 35-year-old man following the fatal assault of a 20-year-old man in the Tallaght area of Dublin.
Gardaí were called to the Drumcairn Estate at around 4am on Friday morning where they discovered a man stricken with stab-related injuries.
He was taken to Tallaght Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The man detained in connection with the incident is being held at a station in the capital, upon which he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
One local who spoke to Dublin Live said that he was awoken by a loud shouts outside, before he witnessed seeing the man’s body on the ground.
He added that attempted to perform CPR before Dublin Fire Brigade and ambulance services arrived.
“Myself and the wife went out,” he said. The man then described what he had heard outside his home.
“We heard a shout going by the house, I was in bed,” he said. “I got dressed, went down, we left it for about 20, 25 minutes, the wife didn’t want me to go out just in case.
“Looking out the window, he didn’t get up. It’s terrible to see, a young man’s life wasted.”
Officers have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward, particularly to those who were in the Drumcairn Estate area between 3 and 4am on Friday, July 26, 2024.
A spokesperson said: “Additionally, individuals with video recordings, including motorists with dash cams, from the area within the timeframe are asked to provide footage to investigating Gardaí.”
An incident room has been established and a senior investigating officer has been appointed, along with a family liaison officer.
