Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea has claimed that Sir Paul McCartney is “the greatest rock bass player”.

Flea made these comments on a recent podcast interview with Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson, where he praised McCartney’s “lyrical and melodic” playing as being “just so beautiful”.

Beatles star McCartney recently added new dates to the South American leg of his Got Back World Tour.

The singer had previously confirmed dates for Mexico, Argentina, Peru and Chile as part of the South American leg of this tour, taking place across October and November this year, making this announcement via social media. More on this here.

“He’s just great” – Flea Hails McCartney

Speaking on the podcast ‘Where Everybody Knows Your Name’, Flea expressed his sheer admiration for Sir Paul McCartney.

“I think Paul’s the greatest rock bass player. He’s just great. I mean, there are so many guys that are great in different ways, but Paul’s bass playing is so lyrical and melodic, and it’s just so beautiful”, he said.

“One of the things I’ve heard is that he put the bass on after. A band like mine, the bass sometimes the song starts with bass lines, so coming first, or the music comes first”.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist also hailed McCartney’s unique approach.

“Whereas I think Paul and John and George, when they wrote songs and Paul would do the bass. And after multi-tracking came in, at the beginning of them, they just went and played live and would do it after, like ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’, the melody is already there”, he added.

“So then he’s doing, like a counter melody, so the bass is like a melody as opposed to just rhythm, and that’s amazing. He’s amazing”.

Meanwhile, Flea’s current band delivered a live performance of their classic hit ‘Can’t Stop’ at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris from a sunny beach in LA.

This performance was part of the ‘handover’ from the current Olympic Games host to the next host city of the games, which take place in Los Angeles in 2028.
