Irish singer Cian Ducrot surprised fans with an impromptu performance in front of the Dublin Portal at the city centre.

Ducrot performed to a crowd of around a hundred spectators, treating fans to live renditions of his hit singles, ‘I’ll Be Waiting’, and ‘Something I Can’t Afford’.

“I’m so excited to be the first artist to perform at the Portal, especially to do it in my home country feels really special”, Ducrot said ahead of this performance.

“Our culture of music is so rich so to be able to be a part of representing that is a huge honour. It’s was a very special experience for everyone involved”, he added.

On the other side of the portal, viewership which had switched between displaying New York and the recently connected cities of Lublin in Poland and Vilnius in Lithuania was smaller, with just one or two people staying for longer than a few minutes.

Considering the portal does not transmit sound, the fact that that the live music aspect of the event would have been lost on some of the far off spectators, was understandable.

Ducrot sings and claps with fans

During his performance, Cian Ducrot encouraged fans that stayed to sing and clap as he performed his tracks.

Elsewhere, Mary Mac Sweeney who is acting executive manager of Dublin City Council’s Culture, Recreation and Economic Service and Economic Services Department said: “We are delighted to welcome Ireland’s own Cian Ducrot to the Dublin Portal and to be part of this unique music experience that brings art and culture together in Dublin’s City Centre”.

She also added: “Dublin is well known for its love of culture, including its contribution to the global music industry”.

This performance also comes just a few months after Cian Ducrot performed two outdoor shows in Donegal and Cork. More on this here.

He also played headline shows at Cork’s Virgin Media Park and St Anne’s Park in Dublin earlier this Summer.
