Elton John has shed some light on his “distressing” eye injury.

Last week, the music legend revealed that he was struggling with a severe eye infection, which left him partially blind in one eye.

Despite this, Elton John did reassure fans that he was “feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far”.

He also paid tribute to his family and “excellent team of doctors and nurses” who have taken “such good care” of him over the last number of weeks. He also added that it would take time before his eye regained its sight. More on this here.

“distressing”

Speaking at last Friday’s Toronto Film Festival, Elton John spoke about how he has been affected by this eye infection.

“What’s happened with my eye has been very distressing,” he explained. “Because I’m used to getting out in the morning, looking at all the newspapers, looking at the charts, looking at everything, how the world is doing creatively. And I’ve lost that for the time being”.

“optimistic”

Despite this, Elton John remains “optimistic” about his recovery from this issue.

He said: “It’s been seven weeks since I’ve been able to see out of this (eye). But the prospect is good. I had a hell of a time with this right eye. It’s a hell of a bug that got into it,” he explained. “And sometimes I feel forlorn. But most of the time I feel grateful that I’ve still got it. And I just have to be patient. And I’ve had so much support. So I’m always optimistic”.

He also revealed that this infection even left him struggling to find his way around Toronto.

“When I’m walking around at home I know where I’m going. Last night, backstage, all the, you know, getting on, no lights, everything, I found it really quite hard,” the music legend shared. “But I had to be here to support the film. I had to be here. This is the first time I have been out in seven weeks”, he said.

Elton John was speaking following the premiere of his film Elton John: Never Too Late, co-directed by his husband David Furnish.

This autobiographical film looks at the singer’s rise to stardom, starting with his famous Dodger Stadium performances in 1975.

It concludes with Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road shows which began in 2022 at the same venue.
