429 kilos of cannabis has been seized under ‘Operation Tara’ – which was set up by Gardai to disrupt national and international drug trafficking networks.

The drugs have an estimated street value of 8 and a half million euro.

The seizures came after Gardaí stopped two vehicles shortly after 3pm yesterday – prompting a search of a premises in the Ballymount area a short time later.

All four men arrested, are detained at Garda stations across the Dublin Region.

Garda chiefs say it’s an example of their commitment to tackle ‘global drug trafficking networks’ – and their efforts to make Ireland a difficult place for these gangs to operate.

Junior Drugs Minister, Colm Burke, has congratulated the Gardaí working under ‘Operation Tara’ – which was set up to target international drug-trafficking networks operating here:

“The Gardai and all of the people involved in planning it and exercising in a very careful manner – it’s a huge amount of drugs which have been seized. I congratulate the Gardai  for the operation but also for other operations over the last number of weeks and also all of the staff working in the ports where illegal drugs have been also seized”

Elsewhere, a man has been charged following the discovery of 2.5 million euro worth of drugs at Rosslare Port on Friday morning.

The man, aged in his 50s, is due to appear before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court this evening.

Investigations are ongoing.
