The recording console which was used to record The Beatles’ iconic ‘Abbey Road’, is up for sale.
The EMI TG12345 recording console which was used by the band to record their 1969 LP, has been restored and up for sale on Reverb.
It had been created by EMI Studios in 1968, the first of 17 created by them, and played a key role in the creation of the Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’.

Having been disassembled, and unused for almost 50 years, the console was eventually put back together under the tutelage of former EMI engineer and renowned Beatles collaborator Ben Gibson over a five year period.
Gibson and his team assembled the console with 70% of its original parts and “faithfully reproduced the replacement parts to seamlessly work alongside their older counterparts”.
On this, Dave Harries who worked in several Beatles recording sessions with the machinery in the 1960s, had this to say.
“‘Abbey Road’ is one of the best albums that’s ever been made, and it sounds so good because of this recording console. Because of the way that Abbey Road was recorded, the album has a distinctive sound that hallmarked the future of pop recording”, he said.
He also added: “This particular console is a one-off. It’s unique. You can’t replace it. It sounds so good that it holds up against any modern console and, in many respects, it’s probably better. Because in those days, it was built to a different standard—cost, no object. EMI built this to be the best in the world”.
This recording console was also used by the Fab Four on several solo projects, including George Harrison’s ‘All Things Must Pass’.
This console will be available to purchase from October 29 via the official Reverb shop in London recording studio pros and collectors MJQ Ltd.
