The jury in the trial of a barrister accused of murdering a man has been shown the revolver used.

Diarmuid Phelan, denies murdering Keith Conlon, saying he was shot accidentally in an act of self-defence.

In Court, Sergeant Simon Whelan said he saw Keith Conlon being treated while lying on his back when he arrived on the site.

He said he noticed a Smith & Wesson revolver on the ground.

A previous witness said Diarmuid Phelan threw the gun on the ground after confirming to him that he was the one who shot Mr Conlon.

Sergeant Whelan said three of the gun’s eight rounds had been fired.

He said they were “hollow nosed rounds,” which cause more damage than pointed bullets.

He said Mr Phelan told him the three rounds fired were possibly “crowshot.”

Sergeant Whelan said the defendant did not answer, when it was put to him that was unusual to load a gun with two different types of ammunition.
