Last week, Gladiator II was premiered at the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield, Dublin.

Gladiator II  is a follow up to the hugely successful box office classic, which starred Russell Crowe as Maximus in 2000.

The film sees Normal People star Paul Mescal star as Maximus’ son Lucius, in a film which is set 15 years after his father’s death. This is also the first time that Mescal will be the central star of a movie. More on this here.

Speaking about his homecoming, the actor said: “I was holding out for something like this to happen, but I never expected it to be this big”.

On putting together this sequel, director Ridley Scott added: “There’s a great deal of excitement about doing a film of this scale. You have to live through a great deal of stress. In fact, you’ve got to embrace stress! I do. It keeps me flying”.

Gladiator II will hit cinema screens tomorrow (Friday November 15).
