Queen drummer Roger Taylor has blasted Band Aid critics, saying that they need to “get their heads examined”.
This comes after the 40th anniversary edition of the track, which included the voice of artists Harry Styles, Bono and George Michael among others, was heavily criticised.
Ed Sheeran whose vocals also featured in Band Aid 40, criticised the track, claiming that the organisers did not ask his permission to reuse his vocals on the song.
Sheeran who featured on Band Aid 30 in 2014, stated that he would have “respectfully” refused the request, as “a decade on and my understanding of the narrative associated with this has changed”. More on this here.
Band Aid Critics “need their heads examined”
Previously, Irish rocker Bob Geldof jumped to the defence of Band Aid, insisting that ‘Do They Know Its Christmas’ has “kept millions of people alive”.
“This little pop song has kept millions of people alive”, he said. “Why would Band Aid scrap feeding thousands of children dependent on us for a meal?”.
Geldof continued: “Why not keep doing that? Because of an abstract wealthy-world argument, regardless of its legitimacy?”.
“No abstract theory regardless of how sincerely held should impede or distract from that hideous, concrete real-world reality”.
Now, Queen drummer Roger Taylor has backed up Geldof, and defended Band Aid.
Taking to Instagram, Taylor wrote: “Proud to be a part of this. It’s probably one of the greatest moments in rock ’n’ roll history actually having an effect on the world! How anyone can criticise such a magnificent and charitable project, which continues to save so many lives from famine is beyond comprehension. They need their heads examined and their values readjusted”.
