Paul McCartney has paid tribute to the "beautiful, sweet" Marianne Faithfull, who passed away this week aged 78.

Faithfull was known for her single, 'As Tears Go By', which was the first track written by her ex boyfriend Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. She also released the Grammy nominated album, 'Broken English' in 1979.

I am so saddened to hear of the death of Marianne Faithfull. She was so much part of my life for so long,” Mick Jagger shared on social media. “She was a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress. She will always be remembered". More on this here.

Now, Beatles legend Paul McCartney shared this sweet tribute to Marianne Faithfull.

"What sad news that Marianne Faithfull has passed away", McCartney wrote on Instagram. “She came into my life in the Sixties and was a beautiful, sweet 17 year old who radiated innocent joy. Then through the years I was lucky enough to run into her and to become a life-long friend".

He also added: “It’s very sad to think that I won’t be meeting her again but my memories of our encounters over the years will always bring me joy. May god bless you Marianne and guide you in the next steps of your journey – Paul".

Elsewhere, Keith Richards also paid homage to Faithfull.

"My heartfelt condolences to Marianne's family! I’m so sad and will miss her!! Love, Keith", he said.
