Steven Tyler made a surprise performance on Sunday February 2nd, after Aerosmith announced their abrupt retirement from touring in August last year due to Tyler's vocal injury.
Tyler’s Jam For Janie charity event, which took place on Sunday (February 2) and doubled as a Grammy's watch party, concluded with a special performance by the Aerosmith frontman. The performance took place at the 6th annual Jam for Janie fundraiser, which partners with Janie's fund, a charitable initiative to help young women aging out of foster care.
Rumours suggested a full Aerosmith reunion- and while that didn’t quite come to pass, original bassist for Aerosmith Tom Hamilton was present and accompanied Tyler for classics including “Walk This Way” and “Sweet Emotion.”
Other star-studded performances on the night included Linda Perry singing Led Zeppelin gems like “Rock and Roll,” Marcus King killing it with a cover of “Proud Mary”, and Joan Jett and long-time Blackhearts band member Kenny Laguna performing "Cherry Bomb"to a simply delighted audience. The gig took place at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium and included a live auction. Proceeds will support women impacted by abuse, neglect, violence and those who have suffered in the LA wildfires. More than 100 firefighters were also invited to the event through the Widows, Orphans And Disabled Firefighters Fund and Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
Regarding the performance, Tyler’s charismatic rock star persona was strong as ever- his onstage energy as powerful as it was during the band’s heyday. Could there be an end in sight to the rock-legend's retirement, and furthermore, a reunion on the cards for Aerosmith?
